‎"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." ~ Howard Thurman

‎"The artist who takes up revolution will quickly realize that creation and revolution are inseparable entities!" ~ Pablo Picasso

On May 1st, 2012, everyone in New York who leaves their house or looks out their window will see public art as part of an historic MayDay celebration. Here are just some of the projects underway, with details about where you can see them and how you can participate in their creation.

May Day schedule / email inquiries / submit a project / volunteer to participate / offer materials (art supplies, workspace, etc) / facebook / planners mailing list / maydaynyc.org

May Pole!

What is it?
A May Pole for May Day! of course! The may pole we imagine, a stick with ribbons woven around it, is in fact a sanitized and Americanized version of a 16th century western European spring ritual. We are re-appropriating this mysterious symbol for the May Day we want to see in our country- a Day that is about the broad solidarity with workers in our country and world.  Using the grievances listed in The Declaration of the Occupation of NYC, we turn the May Pole in an opportunity to symbolically weave together many struggles we face.

Where Can I See it?
The northwest corner of Union Square, 3-4pm.

 How Can I help?
We need more dancers! e-mail schragis.rachel at gmail.com.
